2022 Resorts of Lake Ossie Tour

In the 1950's, there were seven resorts operating on the north shore of the main lake.   The resorts were all clustered together along the road.   Beyond the resorts, there was only a sand trail to access the northern arm of the lake.

This historic map from the 1970's shows the clusters of cabins in the resort area.  If you zoom in on the map, the small squares represent individual structures.

1-Polish Riviera (Formerly a resort)

A small resort was owned by the family of a current lake resident in the 1950's.  One of the cabins had a tavern with a bar in back.   There were a couple of booths and a small menu, along with indoor restrooms.  The cabins were later used/owned by individual families and property was nicknamed "Polish Riveria" in the 1970s even though the Tracy/Spencer families were not Polish.  No signs of the resort remain on the property.  Traut homes purchased and developed the land around 2017.  Four large homes now occupy the property that used to be log cabins and large oak trees.

2-North Shore Resort

Once a resort of around 12 cabins, each of them are now privately owned (addresses/fire numbers 10351-10489).  The main lodge still stands by Ossawinnamakee Road and many of the cabins are on the ridge right behind it.

The boathouses are down by the lake.

3-Oak Grove Resort

A farmer from Iowa originally owned the resort.   The footprint of the resort is pretty much the same today.   The cabins are down by the water's edge and are now individually owned and remodeled. The original resort owner's cabin is the large brown home in the middle.

The yellow cabin is the last one on the east side of the resort.

4-Woodlawn Resort

One cabin remains of this small resort which also had a small store in Ruth and Elmer's house.     You can see an 1950's vintage postcard at this link.

In this photo, the white rooftop peeks out behind the camper.

The current owner found the old sign buried in the woods

5-Popular Point Resort

From Ossawinnamakee Road, you can still spot cabin #8 and the fish cleaning station next to the Harmony Point Townhomes.  At one time, the resort was owned by Vern and Grace Wangen.

This photo from 1950 shows the resort, cabin #8 is on the left.

This photo shows Popular Point Cabins 3, 2, and 1 (left to right).  The resort featured wooden rowboats, one per cabin.   They were painted dark green with white trim on the outside, red on the inside.

6-Harmony Point Resort

The Harmony Point townhomes occupy this former resort.   One original cabin remains to the west of the townhomes.  This green cabin with white trim is a typical example of the type of lodging at many of the resorts on the lake.   The resort was also known as Wright Place when it was operated by Vernon and Sarah.

7-Twin Points Resort

Once there were cabins on both sides of the point, no signs of the resort remain.   A new modern house (built in 2022) sits on the point with a spectacular view.   You can see a 1940's postcard photo at this link.   At that time, Ossawinnamakee was named Long Lake.

Here's a copy of letterhead from the resort dated 1946:
